Urbano 12 introduces a powerful new function for the automatic creation of catchment areas.
In addition to interactive drawing and converting individual CAD elements, Urbano can now automatically convert all closed CAD areas (filtered by layer) into catchments – for the entire network, with a single click.
For each node (any type or only storm drains), the function checks whether it is located inside any closed area and, if so, assigns that area to the node’s outlet pipes. This greatly streamlines and speeds up the workflow of defining catchment areas.
Catchment areas can now be assigned not only to the main network but also to subsystem elements (storm drains), whether they are connected to a node or directly to a pipe. If a storm drain is connected directly to a pipe, the inflow it receives is treated as entering the upstream node of that pipe.
In this video, the Rational (CIA) method with constant rainfall intensity is used to calculate inflows. Urbano supports steady-state hydraulic calculation with pipe sizing using the standard Canalis engine, as well as full dynamic hydraulic simulation using the integrated EPA SWMM engine. All results can be reviewed directly in Urbano through time-dependent data tables, graphs, and longitudinal profiles.
