Urbano GIS is a software package for pipe infrastructure GIS, which works within the Autodesk platform. Urbano GIS is a member of bigger Urbano software family. Urbano software family consists of several modules which can be combined to fit user’s needs. It is possible to add different modules to basic Urbano GIS package to extend its functionality.

Urbano GIS can be combined with infrastructure design packages, Urbano Canalis and Urbano Hydra. With this approach design functions can be added to GIS projects, such as longitudinal sections drawing , system hydraulic checking and so on. Design packages can have benefits too. For example whenever the new system is to be designed, it is possible to draw existing network from external databases or other sources.

Urbano GIS is a modern application developed with modern programming languages (C++/ObjectARX). It has unique, attractive and simple user interface. Urbano GIS is very fast application which can process hundreds of kilometres of infrastructure.

Urbano GIS has been developed for more than 15 years. A lot of users throughout Europe use Urbano GIS effectively. The flexible configuration permits modifications for local markets and their regulations. Many GIS projects has been managed with Urbano GIS.

Software Configuration

The software runs within AutoCAD, AutoCAD MAP or AutoCAD Civil 3D. Preferable platform is MAP 3D. All AutoCAD based products, from the version 2007 are supported.

Urbano GIS is modular software which consists of next modules:

Basic modules

-       Network Layout + Database Extension. Possibility of importing the network from different sources. Any Windows compatible database is supported. Communication is bidirectional. Other sources such as ESRI SHP, MAP INFO, ISYBAU are supported. Interactive network definition  according to topological rules is possible. Query functions, thematic mapping and styling

-       Longitudinal Sections. Definition of any kind of table layout with different parameters. Virtually, any kind of table bands can be added to longitudinal section.

Additional modules

-       Geo Extension.  Surveying data management – points, connections, symbols. Imports/exports points from arbitrary text files. Special linetypes according to surveying regulations. 2D <-> 3D conversion. Cross sections drawing with the volume calculation.

-       Polygon Manager. Polygon topology creation from AutoCAD elements. Options to label, query and export  topology element. Topology analysis – buffer, overlay.

-       Raster. Possibility of connection to large number of raster images within AutoCAD. Showing of raster images according to spatial criteria. Raster images advanced organization.

-       Hydraulic packages. Possibility to use sewage (Canalis) or water distribution (Hydra) hydraulic calculation.

-       Terraform. Built in digital terrain software. Optimal for using in pipe network systems. Civil 3D DTM is supported, too

GIS functionality

The network defined in Urbano GIS package has its own topology. The topology helps when the network integrity checking is necessary. Data inputting is organized by topology selection. Any kind of table views can be restricted to certain topology elements (arrays, branches, ...).

In GIS projects, it is necessary to find and mark certain elements based on defined conditions. In Urbano GIS there is comprehensive query function. It is possible to create dynamic spatial and attribute queries.

Labeling of the network system is very easy and fast. It is possible to create any kind of label configuration, for nodes and sections separately. Thematic mapping, according to any data, can emphasize distribution of some network values.

There are three data types. There are built in (geometrical or topological data) user data (any kind of user defined data) and virtual data (defined by mathematical or logical operations from existing data). All the data have the same status and can be used in any operation. It is possible to create rules, according to which the text information capturing can be made in the drawing.

With the software, it is possible to establish bidirectional connection to any database. It is possible to update the data which have come from external source and which have been changed in the session.

Any kind of external documents (photos, videos, reports, ...) can be automatically attached to the network elements (nodes, sections, blocks).

Urbano GIS user interface is organized by means of commands and configurations from central panel – workspace. It is very easy to start any command with any configuration from the workspace. All important options are immediately available.

Any configuration can be saved to disk repository for later use in new projects. Any completed configuration can be saved as template and later used in new projects. The country kits creation is available.

Work with most commands is organized by using modeless dialogs, which significantly speed up the working process.
